While you're in Kalbarri

Welcome to Kalbarri WA!

We are located on the west coast of Western Australia where the Murchison River meets the Indian Ocean. It’s a bit of a drive as we are about 570km north of Perth. Our community is a quiet beachside town boasting incredible natural wonders found along the coastline. Don’t miss the choice surfing, fishing and canoeing close by as well as hiking trails in Kalbarri National Park.

Besides the obvious meal at Finlay’s Kalbarri, we’ve put together a few names and activities that visitors always rave about.

Things to do on land… well mostly

Between horseback riding, exploring the gorges, seeking out wildflowers, stargazing and taking amazing photos, you will definitely want to spend some extra time here… or come back often! There is so much to do. Most tours operate daily (many twice per day) but we recommend getting in touch with them or the Visitor Centre to check on availability.

Quad bike tours

While exploring one of the oldest pastoral stations in WA, Murchison House Station, you can catch a quadbike tour from Kalbarri Quad Bike Safaris. Alternatively, you can spend a couple hours on a quadbike at the beach with Wagoe Beach Quad Bike Tours. Beginners and experienced riders are welcome but remember that these are scenic tours. Children over 4 years old are welcome as passengers. You’ll need a driver’s license to operate the quad.

Stargazing, Wildflowers and more

We definitely know d’right guy to get you out and about to amazing scenery around Kalbarri. D’Guy Charters will take you and your group on an adventure to visit the most beautiful areas around Kalbarri at the best times of day. You won’t even have to drive… just enjoy!

For those photography buffs… or budding photographers, you’ll want to have a look at Blue Tongue Photo Tours. They will transport you to the best spots to take incredible photos as well as help you build upon your photography skills.

Horseback riding

Explore the bushlands and banks of the Murchison River on horseback with Big River Ranch. All riders with or without experience are welcomed with trail rides for riders aged 10+ and pony rides for the little ones.

Gorges

You may have been to Kalbarri before and done a walk or two down the fabulous trails. You may have even seen the new Skywalk. However, nothing compared to spending a day or half a day canoeing in the Murchison River as the gorges tower above. Incredible. Have a look at Kalbarri Adventure Tours or  Kalbarri Canoe Safaris.

Abseiling

For a truly unforgettable adventure, have a look at abseiling. Kalbarri Abseil meets you down at Z Bend Gorge to conquer 3 descents of the gorges… 4m, 25m and 35m. Just wow!

Scenic Flights

This tour includes wow factor that isn’t really on land. A scenic flight can give you that birds eye view of local sights as well as the Pink Lakes and Abrolhos Islands. Take a look at Kalbarri Scenic Flights for options out of Kalbarri.

Ocean activities

Surf

Jakes Point (Jacques Point) is definitely the spot to surf on that world-class left-hand break. Blue Holes and Red Bluff are also worth a look when the conditions are right!

Fishing

There are a wide variety of fish to catch including red emperor, dhufish, coral trout, pink snapper and more. Bring your boat or consider finding the best fishing spots with Kalbarri Rock Lobster Tours & Charter or Reefwalker Ocean Discovery. You can hire your own boat from Kalbarri Boat Hire.

Leisurely Cruise

Can’t beat a Western Australian sunset over the ocean and it’s even better when it’s on a boat. Maybe make it a day trip? Either way, you are in for a win. You can hire your own pontoon boat from Kalbarri Party Pontoon or join a river cruise with Kalbarri Wilderness Cruises.

If you are up for a bit more adventure, you might consider exploring the Murchison River by canoe! Have a look at our Land Activities section above for more info.

Where to stay

Accommodation can be a little tricky as people continue to work through the aftermath of Cyclone Seroja in 2021. However, there are many accommodation options that are operating and ready to take your booking.

Get in touch with Ray White Kalbarri, the Kalbarri Visitor Centre, one of our caravan parks, a station stay or your favourite booking site.

Also keep in mind that we have services that support the community including grocery stores, fuel station, laundromat, cafés and retail shops. Kalbarri is a pretty incredible place to visit for a weekend or a week. We look forward to seeing you soon!
