Finlay’s Kalbarri provides a unique casual dining experience in the coastal town of Kalbarri, on Western Australia’s Coral Coast.
The most distinctive feature of Finlay’s Kalbarri is its 30 years of history. Finlay’s Kalbarri is owned and managed by husband and wife duo, Warrick and Melissa Finlay, who bought Finlay’s from the original Finlay family. Melissa and Warrick are not related to the previous owners, however they do have the same surname which is spelt the same way!
The property was originally the site of the town’s ice works, which was then purchased by the Finlay family and operated as a fish processing facility. Exports of fish from the town however were brought to a halt during the national pilot strike of 1989. With the main transport network for exporting local produce destroyed the Finlay family decided if they can’t bring the produce to the market, they would bring the market to the produce and so began Finlay’s Kalbarri story.
As part of the ever-evolving operations, Finlay’s Kalbarri is now home to a Brewery offering locals and tourists fresh locally brewed beer to accompany the fresh local seafood. The brewery was established in 2018, and the response to the beers brewed on site has been phenomenal.
In true Finlay’s style the brewery has also undergone evolution within the first few years of operations as the initial brewing equipment was not able to keep up with the demand!!
2020 was a tumultuous year with extreme highs and unfortunate lows but like in 1989 Finlay’s was ready to roll with the punches! As we couldn’t get the market to the beer we decided to get the beer to the market!! and that’s how we began canning our beers, woohoo!!
2021 is going to see great things at Finlay’s, we’ve got a bigger brewing system and we’ve got a canning machine. We can’t wait to share our brews with everyone!
